ABOUT US...

  • The Centre was opened in April of 2001.
  • The building is owned and maintained by the City of Fredericton. 
  • The Centre is administered by an elected Board of Directors, made up of volunteer members, functioning under By-Laws and an operating budget of approximately $70,000 per year. The Board meets up to 9 times per year.
  • The Standing Committees: Volunteer, Membership, Events/Fundraising, Program, and Communications play a major role in the operation and decision making of the Centre.
  • Ad Hoc Committees are established as required.
  • The 2019 membership was the highest ever with 804 members. The average is about 500 per year. 
  • The membership fee is set by Board and only increased to 25$ in 2022. 
  • The purpose of being signed in at the Centre is as follows: 
    1. Safety in an emergency situation.
    2. Statistics on the use of the Centre.
    3. Record of participation in programs.
  • The revenue for the Centre comes from: 
    1. Fundraising and Events.
    2. Membership Fees.
    3. Program Fees.
    4. Donations.
    5. Friends Program
    6. We do periodically apply for Grants, both Provincially and Federally, for equipment for programs; technology for communication and research; and funding for summer students.
  • Program fees are a portion (20%) of the fee you pay for some programs, e.g., if you pay a fee of $5.00, $1:00 comes back to the Centre. 
  • The Centre is available for renting with a 50% reduction in the rate for members. 
  • Some of the expenses of the Centre are:
    1. Salary and Benefits.
    2. Cost of Fundraising. 
    3. Supplies for the office, kitchen, etc. 
    4. Cleaning.
    5. Bookkeeping services.
  • Ideas and suggestions for programs come mostly from members themselves.
  • Monthly calendars, weekly updates, use of website, and Facebook are established means of communicating to members and the community at large. 
  • Volunteers are vital to the functioning of the Centre. When there is not a volunteer at the front desk to greet those coming into the building, it appears that the Centre is empty, regardless of how many rooms may be full. 
  • There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at the Centre. It is a great way to participate and also give back to the Centre. Volunteering leads to social opportunities as well. All are welcome.
