The Centre is closed for programs on Good Friday, April 18th and Easter Monday, April 21st.  However, we are an Advance Polling Station for the election. 
The Centre will be open for voting on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
 
Wednesday, April 22nd is Earth Day!
 
Free Tax Clinics provided by Volunteers and Students from NB Community College on a first come first served basis (no appointments) Wednesday, April 23rd from 6-9pm.
 
Forum- NB Senior Games- Wednesday, April 23rd at 3:00pm. Presented by Matt Wilson – Special Events and Projects Coordinator from Recreation NB. He will talk about the NB 55+ Games happening June 19-21, 2025.
 
Latin Dance Fitness Demo- Friday, April 25th at 10:45am. Low impact workout to Latin rhythms.  Warm up, easy to follow steps (Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, Merengue, and Cha Cha Cha), and finish with stretching, relaxing, and refreshing.  No experience needed. 
 
Lunch around Freddy- Friday, April 25th at 11:30am at Montana’s. Sign up by noon on Thursday April 24th.
 
Scrabble Tournament - Saturday, April 26th at 1:30pm. Cost $5.  Sign up at the Centre.
 
We are celebrating National Take a Chance Day on April 27th at 1:30-3:3pm!  Most of us have unaccomplished goals or dreams. What if this was the day to take the chance to make them happen? We’ll start out easy with a few games of chance – bingo, cards, games; and get you talking about some things you have always wanted to try.  We invite you to bring some finger foods to share (could be snacks, cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies, etc.) along with your imagination. Please sign up so we can plan ahead for setting up tables and chairs.

UNB Research – Seeking 60+ adults who are cognitively healthy, have mild cognitive impairment, or mild Alzheimer’s.  There will be 2-3 sessions of 3 hours each.  You will be paid $15/hour + $20/session for transportation.  Contact Dr. Veronica Whitford at 506-451-6995 or [email protected]
 
New Brunswick announced that Applications are open for Low-income Seniors’ Benefit.  This benefit allows eligible applicants to claim $616 for the year.  Applications can be found online at https://www.pxw1.snb.ca/snb9000/product.aspx?productid=A001PDLISB1a&l=e and also available at Service New Brunswick.  You have until Dec. 31 to apply.  Applications are available at the Centre’s front desk.
 
Bridge Drop-in!  Fredericton Senior Center, 112 Johnston Ave. Every Friday, April 11 to June 26 from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  No partner required.  Participants pay $10 for the season.  Players of all levels are welcome!  Contact Kathryn Baird at 506-260-0605 or email [email protected] for more information.

FORUM- Meet the Candidates in the upcoming Federal Election Wednesday, April 16, 4:00 pm at the Stepping Stone Senior Centre. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about them.

Knitting Basics for Beginners - Tuesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30am from April 8th to April 29th. This 4-week knitting class will cover the basics: knitting, purling, garter stitch, stocking stitch, ribbing, casting on, and casting off.  Cost of each class $5. All materials included. Ten participants max.  Sign up at the centre.
 
Forum- Seniors for Climate Change - Wednesday, April 9th at 3:00pm.  Presented by Muriel Jarvis, a community volunteer for 30 years who organized EarthFest for the past four years and now is involved with the national Seniors for Climate initiative.
 
Mahjongg Social- Saturday, April 12th staring at 12:30pm. Cost $5. Come and have some fun. Sign up at the centre.

Central Valley Adult Learning Association (CVALA) is hosting a 3-day computer basics. Monday, April 7th; Tuesday, April 8th; and Thursday, April 10th from 10:30am - 3:30pm.
The course will cover topics like the basics of using a computer, how to use the internet, and more. To attend this free course, you must register through CVALA by calling 506-478-3247 or emailing [email protected].
 
Drop-in Art – 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, from 1-4pm, at the Fredericton Seniors Center, 112 Johnston Ave.  Water colours, oils, acrylics, charcoal, pencils, etc. Bring your own supplies and enjoy creating art with fellow painters in our nice big bright space.  $5 drop-in fee. Bridge Marathon- This Saturday, March 22nd - Doors open at 9:00am the playing starts at 10:00.
Cost is $10. Lunch is provided. Sign up at the Centre by noon on Tuesday March 18th. Those who signed up after March 18th will need to bring their own lunch.

Forum:  – Wednesday, March 26th, 3:15pm - We Are Young (WAY) - Pastor Normand McDonald will share his experience with WAY, a not-for-profit agency from Halifax.  They grant experience-based wishes to seniors.  Normand had a long-time wish and when he heard about them, he applied.  He had his wish granted.  WAY arranged everything for him to go to Caraquet, NB.  All expenses were covered, all arrangements were made, the itinerary was set, and he had the time of his life!  Do you have a lifelong wish?  Come see what’s possible!

Cardiac Rehabilitation - Research teams from Horizon Health Network (HHN), the National Research Council Canada (NRC), and Dalhousie University want to explore and identify the unmet needs of cardiac rehabilitation programs across Atlantic provinces. The project aims to gather experiences and perspectives from individuals who have had a cardiac event (e.g., heart attack, heart failure, heart surgery, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, etc.).  Diverse input can help transform the way Atlantic provinces approach cardiac rehabilitation through the considerations of patient perspectives. Festive Social – Sunday, March 16th, 1:30pm – Sign up to join us for the first Festive Social, celebrating the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day. A Sunday celebration with a bit of song and a chance to wear a touch of the green. We invite you to bring finger food to share. Coffee and tea provided. Please sign up to allow us to plan for numbers. Entertainment planned for 1:30 to set the mood.


Out and About: A visit to Government House, 51 Woodstock Road, Fredericton has been arranged for Stepping Stone members on Tuesday, March 18th at 1:30pm. The visit will include a mini concert by the Fredericton Fiddle Orchestra followed by a conducted tour concluding with a short presentation and viewing of the Fredericton Society of Artists display. Sign-up for this outing is required by March 14. A minimum of 10 participants is required. Visitor parking is to the right of the residence. Please arrive by 1:15 and look for the Visitor Entry signage. We will assemble inside.

Since the #1 barrier to new residents moving to Parkland is “clearing out their house after ….. years,”  we decided to assist people with the monumental task.  Relocation Experts, Choosing how to move, Choosing where to move.

Together Symposium-In partnership with the City of Fredericton’s Office of Community Inclusion, the Greater Fredericton Social Innovation (GFSI) is proud to host the 2025 DEIB Symposium at the Maqiyahtimok Centre, Sitansisk First Nation. Friday, March 21st, 8:30-4:30.  This symposium brings together leaders, organizations, and community members to explore strategies for advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) in our workplaces, institutions, and communities. Speakers (Non-profits, Municipalities (Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John, and more!) will share their experiences, innovative initiatives, and practical solutions for fostering more equitable and inclusive environments.

It is 1914 and Hugh Obrien, a conductor for the St. John St. Railway Co., is raising two sons with wife, Kate. Movie Matinee- Sunday, March 9th at 2:00pm- “5 Flights Up” A long-time married couple who've spent their lives together in the same New York apartment become overwhelmed by personal and real estate-related issues when they plan to move away. Bring your own Snacks.
 
Forum:  Presented by Janet Durkee Lloyd, PhD St. Thomas University- Wednesday, March 12th at 10:30am.  This workshop is a great starting point to learn about mental health, mental illness and addictions. We’ll answer your questions and help you understand what can affect your mental health in later life. You’ll leave with new ways to stay well and knowing where to turn to for support.

Bridge Marathon- Saturday, March 22nd-Doors open at 9:00 am the playing starts at 10:00am. Cost is $10. Lunch is provided. Sign up at the Centre by noon on Tuesday March 18th. Lunch options are Honey Garlic Chicken Bites, Lasagna w/ Garlic Bread, or Corn Chowder.

Free Tax Clinics provided by Volunteers and Students from NB Community College on a first come first served basis (no appointments) on the following dates: Wednesday, March 19th from 6-9pm and Saturday, March 29th from 1-5pm. More dates to come.
 
Cardiac Rehabilitation - Research teams from Horizon Health Network (HHN), the National Research Council Canada (NRC), and Dalhousie University want to explore and identify the unmet needs of cardiac rehabilitation programs across Atlantic Canadian provinces. Utilization of cardiac rehabilitation remains limited. Why is that?  The project aims to gather experiences and perspectives from individuals who have had a cardiac event (e.g., heart attack, heart failure, heart surgery, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, etc.).  Diverse input can help transform the way Atlantic Canadian provinces approach cardiac rehabilitation through the considerations of patient perspectives.
