GREAT NEWS! BUS TRIP TO MCADAM RAILWAY STATION IS GOING AHEAD-The day trip by bus to the historic McAdam Railway Station is going ahead. The bus leaves from the Grant Harvey Centre, 600 Knowledge Park Dr. on November 16th at  and returns by supper time. We will provide times prior to the date. Lunch will be provided at the Lions Club with a menu of homemade soup, sandwiches, and sweets. We will also visit a large Craft Sale, and the Station will be presented in full Christmas regalia.
 
Health Expo For Seniors- This Saturday, October 19, from 9:30 – 2:00 at Leo Hayes High School.  Admission is FREE and snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.  There will be “Try It” and “Info” sessions throughout the day. 
 
Stepping Stone Senior Centre as a Polling Station- Our large room has been rented out for use as a Polling Station on Election Day, Oct. 21 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.  Any programs regularly booked in the large room on that day have been re-scheduled or cancelled. The programs in the other rooms are not impacted and will go ahead as scheduled on the calendar.
 
Script Reading- Wednesday, October 23 starting at 2:00 pm.  Join us for a reading of The Mystery at Mayhem Manor. The millionaire Mr. Mayhem is threatened on all sides by relatives, and servants and shady gangsters. A private eye and his loyal girl Friday are hired by the showgirl Mrs. Mayhem to save the day. With an assist from a British inspector, can the case be solved? Adapted from a G&S Cabaret. Potential drama presentation if there is interest.
 
Restart of Craft Group Program- The Centre is hoping to get one of its original programs up and going again after the summer hiatus. A group gathered two weeks ago to begin the process and are suggesting a name change to Creative Seniors with a focus on the social aspect of the program. They invite all interested members to join them on Thursday, October 24th at 1:30 pm. There is no fee to this drop-in style program. You have the option of bringing crafts you may be working on, regardless of what they are, getting assistance from other participants if needed, sharing your expertise, or just sharing a cup of tea. All are welcome. 
 
Scrabble Tournament- Sign up for lunch and a social afternoon, enjoying Scrabble. Invite your friends. Saturday, October 26th starting at 11:30 am. $10 for pizza. Minimum number of participants required is 4.  Sign up at the Centre. High score prize being offered for the first game. The remainder of the games are on a timer to allow movement between tables.
 
Fluid Dance - 12:45 pm Tuesdays. Open for more participants.  Fluid dance offers Salsa, Cha-Cha, Waltz, Shimmy, and more. Mirror image instructions takes the anxiety out of learning.  We have fun!  $5.00 a class.
 
Returning Program - Learn to Row Indoors: Try the Erg Machine- Starting Friday,Nov 1st at 10:30 am. 5 classes for $60 or $15 for “drop in.” Sign up at the Centre.
 
Bridge Marathon- Saturday, November 9th from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Cost $10 (lunch included). Pay on day of event.  Deadline to sign up is noon on Nov. 1.  Maximum 40 people/10 tables. Make choice from menu list when you sign up.
            
Callout for donations of used jeans- We are looking for used jeans, especially light colours, for our member who makes quilts with them. They may be dropped off at the Centre. Thank you! 
 
Volunteering at the Centre – Many volunteering opportunities exist at the Centre.  From Reception at the front desk, helping out with fundraisers, facilitating programs and activities, joining the board of directors, serving on a committee, and much more.  Let us know what interests you! Call or email the Centre.
 
Community News:
 
W2M – Wheels to Meals is an opportunity to enjoy lunch, most Tuesdays, in the company of others for only $10.  Juice, a freshly-prepared hot meal, biscuits, dessert, tea/coffee.  Volunteers pick you up and bring you back home if you need it or you can come on your own.  Lunch is served at 11:30 at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, McEvoy St. and local entertainers perform after lunch.  Call Meals on Wheels to register 506-458-9482. The next ones are on October 22 & 29!
 
Death Café – Wednesday, October 23, from 1:30 – 3:00 at the Fredericton Public Library.  A Death Café is a gathering of adults who want to talk about death and dying in a safe, supportive, respectful, and confidential space.  Unlike a support group or grief counselling, there is no agenda and no experts; there is no course of action, product or service promoted.  It is open to, and respectful of, people from all communities and belief systems.  No fee to attend.
