Musical Showcase- The Centre’s Musical Groups are holding their Fundraising Concert on this Sunday, June 21st at 2:00 pm at the Fredericton Intercultural Centre – 28 Saunders Street.  Donations gratefully appreciated. Please spread the word and join us for some great music and support the Centre at the same time. There will be cookies! Celebrate Fathers’ Day with us!
 
Information Session - Fire Safety – Wednesday, June 24th at 3:00 pm. Fire Prevention Officer, Joshua Bradley, with the Fredericton Fire Department, will provide education on fire safety for your home such as cooking safety, electrical safety, and heating safety.  He will also talk about the importance of smoke alarms and having an evacuation plan and will provide practical fire extinguisher training for all attendees. The session will last approximately 45 minutes and is intended to be interactive so please bring your questions.
 
Upcoming Events:
 
Breakfast- Saturday, July 3rd from 8:00-11:00am.
 
Backgammon- Starting Monday, July 6th from 10:00 to noon. A classic two-player game combining strategy and luck. Come learn or bring your skills. You must sign-up at the Centre – call or drop in.  Max 10 players.
 
Social Tea - Wednesday, July 8th from 1:30-3:00 pm.  Bring your favourite cookies or squares etc. Share your recipe for a chance at a door prize.  Coffee, tea, and cold drinks provided.
 
Service Canada Clinic – Wednesday, July 8th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.  This is not a presentation but an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a Service Canada Specialist, Sylvie Cummings.  Ask your specific questions and/or get help with completing applications or renewing forms.  You must sign-up at the Centre – call or drop in.
 
SSSC Trivia Night- Friday, July 10th. Doors open at 6:00pm and “quizzing” starts at 6:30pm. There will be snacks.  Free and open to the public.
 
Scrabble Tournament- Saturday, July 11th at 1:00pm. Cost $5. Minimum two (2) tables required. Call or sign-up at the Centre!
 
The Centre will have a table at the Garrison Market on Thursdays, July 23 and August 27. We will be handing out brochures and other information as well as selling jam and biscuits.
 
 
 
Community Health:
 
Our Board of Directors asks you to please use the hand sanitizer available on entering the Centre.  Masks are available. If you are able to, please assist with the sanitizing of chairs and equipment used in your program. Together, let’s work to keep you and our Centre community healthy.

Donations Needed - The Wagon Outreach thanks the members of Stepping Stone Seniors Center for their generosity. We are now hitting the streets twice a week! Donations of individually wrapped treats would be gratefully welcomed for the remainder of June. 
 
We are expecting to receive four raised planters from the City and the plants to go in them.  Members, would you like to help out and get your hands in the dirt?  June 29th is when we expect them.  If you’re interested in participating in the gardening over the summer, we have a sign-up sheet on the Volunteers’ board.

Keep Your Brain Healthy as You Age.  We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity with you.
The Capital Region of New Brunswick has been selected as one of only 14 regions across Canada to participate in Brain Health PRO (BHP), a national program focused on reducing the risk of dementia and promoting healthy aging.  Brain Health PRO was developed by leading Canadian universities, researchers, and the Alzheimer Society of Canada to help adults aged 50+ learn practical ways to support brain health. The program is completely free and consists of 90 engaging online modules, each taking about 10 minutes to complete. The study has been reviewed and approved by a research ethics board, and your responses will remain private. On Wednesday, August 12th between 1:00 and 4:00 pm, we will experience a partial Solar eclipse.  Ted Dunphy is with the Astronomical Society.  They are going to set up 3 telescopes in the Park area for public viewing.
 
Seeking Research Participants - Testing the feasibility of a virtual application to support breast and colorectal cancer survivors after completing primary treatment.  Have you been previously diagnosed with stage I-III breast or colorectal cancer and have completed primary treatment for this cancer diagnosis within 5 years.  If you choose to participate in this study, you would be provided access to the virtual application for six months, and be asked to complete 3 surveys: before you try the application, during the 6-month trial period, and after the six-month period. Following this, participants may be invited to partake in a virtual interview which would take approximately 45 minutes at a time that is convenient for you.  Location: Online, either on a phone, tablet, or computer.  If you have questions or would like to participate, please reach out to Caroline Hovey by email at [email protected]  or 506-647-1462.

Food Smart- A monthly food buying program.  You order a bag (medium size, reusable) on the first Thursday of the month and pick up your bag on the second Thursday of the month. You pay $15 for a bag of fresh fruits and vegetables worth at least $30. For more information about this program email Mary Farrell at [email protected] or call at 506-455-1251. Orders are taken by email. You pick up your bag in the parking lot beside the Stepping Stone Centre at 11 am.
