Take a break from the Christmas rush and join us for some Christmas music and conversation. We’ll put the tea and coffee on. Feel free to bring some treats to share. Friends of the Centre Campaign - Our appeal for financial support for the Centre is in full swing. This Campaign is a critical part of the Centre’s operating budget. The monies raised support the delivery of programs and activities for the members. There is no donation too small; however, tax receipts will be issued for an amount of $10 or more. Movie- Monday Dec 29th at 1:30pm Elenor The Great- Staring June Squibb- After the death of her oldest friend, 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein moves from Florida to New York City for a fresh start. Wandering into a support group for Holocaust survivors, she tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. Christmas Concert – Make the Season Kind- The Centre had a very successful concert on Sunday, Dec. 14. Thank you to everyone who supported this endeavour in any way: our five musical groups: Acoustic Jam, Ukulalians, Singers, String Along and Troubadours; our sound experts Brian Cassidy and Mike Richardson; the Cultural Centre; those who attended and all who donated to the Regional Food Banks including our Line Dancers. A cheque for $1105 was delivered to the Oromocto Food Bank. The true spirit of Christmas is alive at the Stepping Stone Senior Centre. A big Thank You to David Myles, our Member of Parliament for taking the time to come visit the members of the Stepping Stone Senior Centre this past Monday. We have found a set of brand new hearing aids. They were left behind in one of our programs. Programs are Starting Soon! Call or Sign up at the Centre to Register. Cost $10 American Mahjongg Lessons – Tuesday, Jan. 6th at 10am for the month of January. No fee for this program. Core Strength and Mobility – Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 10:30am and Thursday Jan. 8 at 11:45am. Cost $120 for 10 weeks or $15 for drop in. Functional Mobility – Tuesday, Jan. 6th at 11:30am and Thursday, Jan. 8th at 10:30am. Cost $120 for 10 weeks or $15 for drop in. Jazz Fitness – Tuesday, Jan. 6th at 6:30pm. Cost $5 Simply Making Art – Wednesday, Jan. 7th at 11am. Cost $5 Our Community’s Health Our Board of Directors asks you to please use the hand sanitizer available on entering the Centre. Community Notices Free Phone-Based Wellness Program for Older Adults – Participants Invited St. Thomas University, in collaboration with the University of Manitoba, is hosting a series of workshops as part of a national project, and this is the only Atlantic Canada site to be a part of this programming. We’re looking for older adults to join a supportive, 6-week program designed to help people feel more connected and build skills for coping with life’s challenges. Two sessions available: January–February or March–April. Each weekly call is 90 minutes, and everything happens over the phone, so participants can join from home—no travel required. NBCC – Life-long Learning for Seniors (60+) – FREE This special opportunity invites seniors to audit college classes. No exams, no grades, just the joy of learning! Classes start January 5th. Understanding How Retirement Affects Older Adults (UNB Research) Participants will be asked to complete a survey in person or online. If after the initial survey, you are interested in continuing, an interview will be scheduled. This research is looking into physical health, mental health, social connections, financial security, and spiritual fulfillment. Incentives are available for those who participate. Residents should NOT register if they live in an assisted living facility or other licensed residential health care facility; have a built-in support system at home (i.e. medical alert system); or live outside city limits. You should still have a plan that includes a 72-hour emergency kit. Turn on your headlights! Do not use Cruise Control! Make sure your vehicle is winterized! -Replace all-season tires with good winter tires for full traction. Plan your maneuvres (breaking, changing lanes, etc.) in advance if at all possible! Keep your car clean of snow!
