Join us for a reading of an abridged Sherlock Holmes story and put your sleuthing skills to the test! Will we be able to crack the case? Call the Centre, 506-450-7849, leave your name and phone number by noon on Tuesday to participate. You will be contacted before the call is scheduled. Cryptic Crosswords Lite- Returning for the summer! Tuesdays, June 11 to August 27, 1:00-3:00pm. You will learn new step-by-step techniques for solving these popular puzzles. Calling all lovers of language, logic, and trivia! Get an E for “effort” at Lite and go to the head of the class! Hint: E + Lite, or the head of the class =? Especially for beginners and all skill levels are welcome. Facilitated by James Kennett. Please call the Centre to sign up. Limit of 10. Forum - Wednesday, June 12th, 3:00-4:00 pm. GLA:D: Good Living with Osteoarthritis: Denmark. Presented by Lisa Dick, Physiotherapist, Horizon Health Network. There will be a brief and general overview of the education provided and exercises instructed in the program. There will be discussion about the assessment and criteria for the program and how data is collected which helps GLA:D Canada improve its offerings. There will be information on how to register for an assessment to determine if this program is appropriate for you. Summer Art Sessions will be taking place on Monday afternoons at 2:00pm starting June 10th. The final class will be on July 15th. These are drop in classes, no fee and no previous experience required! Next week, June 17th, we will be making mixed-media collages. Stone Painting – Friday, June 14th at 1:00pm. We will be painting stones to put in our garden, or to hide around the city this summer! No cost, materials will be provided. Script Reading – Tuesday, June 18th at 2:00pm - Join us for a reading of The Mystery at Mayhem Manor. The millionaire Mr. Mayhem is threatened on all sides by relatives and servants and shady gangsters. A private eye and his loyal girl Friday are hired by the showgirl Mrs. Mayhem to save the day. With an assist from a British inspector, can the case be solved? Adapted from a G&S cabaret. Potential drama presentation for the fall. Community News The City’s High Priority Disaster Response Registry aims to help vulnerable residents who live alone or don’t have family nearby. In the event of an emergency, a trained professional will check on a resident listed in our registry by phone or in-person. The New Brunswick Financial and Consumer Services Commission is offering a free online course for seniors looking to better protect themselves and others against financial scams and abuse. Participant Recruitment - UNB Study on Mobility and Aging Researchers at the University of New Brunswick are collaborating with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) through the Aging in Place Challenge Program. Led by Dr. Erik Scheme, Associate Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, this project will explore Technology-Enabled Mobility Assessments for Community-Dwelling Older Adults. This research aims to help us understand the needs and experiences of older adults with mobility concerns or challenges and the role of mobility assessment and monitoring. We are recruiting the following demographic to participate in a mixed methods study (up to 1.5 hours of online survey/phone interview). · Older adults (60+) with mobility concerns (interested in “future-proofing”) or challenges · Adults with experience caring for an older adult with mobility concerns or challenges (e.g., caregiver, friend, family, informal circle of care)
