The winner of the 50/50 draw last month was Darren! Seniors Prom - In celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, Saturday, October 4th, 2-4pm at the Cultural Centre, 28 Saunders Street. Music by the Thomists. Refreshments will be served. There is no cost. You can dress up or not, as you please. Friends Campaign- Because of the Postal strike we are not able to send out your tax-deductible receipts. If you have made a donation, thank you so much and please drop in to pick-up your tax receipt. Returning Programs Rowing for Fitness- Mondays, starting October 6th at 11:30am and on Fridays, starting October 10th at 10:30am. Cost: $120 for 10 weeks or $15 for drop-in. Sign-up at the centre. Core Strength and Mobility- Tuesdays, starting October 7th at 10:30am and Thursdays, starting on October 9th at 11:45am. Cost: $120 for one class for 10 weeks, $200 for both days, or $15 for drop in. Sign-up at the centre. Functional Mobility- Tuesdays, starting October 7th at 11:30am and Thursday, starting October 9th at 10:30am. Cost: $120 for one class for 10 weeks, $200 for both classes per week, or $15 for drop in. Sign-up at the centre. Core and Mobility- Wednesdays, starting October 8th at 6:00pm. Upcoming Info Session - Breaking the Cycle of Worry: Understanding Anxiety Disorders in Later Life Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30am presented by Janet Durkee Lloyd –- Anxiety is a natural response to things we think may cause us harm or of which we feel we have no control. It can be mild and short lived or it can become a constant that impacts daily life. In this session we will answer the following questions: What is anxiety? What are anxiety disorders? What can an anxiety disorder look like? How can we stay well and get the support we need? Open to the public! Our Community Health- Fall is here and many are looking for available Flu and Covid vaccines. Pharmacists will be starting to administer these vaccines after Thanksgiving. We are making arrangements for a Pharmacist to come to the Centre to provide flu and Covid19 vaccines. As soon as we have dates and times, we will let you, our members, know and we will have a sign-up sheet. How can you tell if your Covid19 tests are still useable if they are outdated: according to a local Pharmacist, as long as the liquid is still liquid they can still be used. New Covid tests available at a local pharmacy for $21.99, no tax, for a box of 4. RSV Vaccine- Beginning October 14 in NB, the RSV vaccine will be available free for seniors 75 and up. Our Board of Directors asks you to use the hand sanitizer available on entering the Centre. Should you wish, masks are available as well. If you are able, please assist with the sanitizing of chairs and equipment used in your program. Together, let’s work to keep you and our Centre community healthy. Win!Win! Community Notices Wheels To Meals returns on Tuesday, October 7th at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, McEvoy St. A hot, freshly prepared meal, including dessert and tea/coffee for only $10. Healthy Aging Expo- October 18, 2025 at Fredericton High School from 10:00 to 2:00 pm. Note location change- last year this event was held at Leo Hayes High School. This annual event is sponsored by City of Fredericton, Age Friendly Advisory Committee and Retired Teachers. The Expo will feature close to 50 exhibitors providing information on services, activities and opportunities for older adults. The Fredericton Age Friendly Advisory Committee is holding 2 engagement sessions(11:00 and 12:00 ) to talk to older residents to hear what they have to say about living and aging in Fredericton. Make sure you have your say. UNB Research – Fall Risk Assessment – A four-part study: online screening survey, then three in-person mobility assessments. If you are 60 years or older, able to walk comfortably and not need assistive devices for at least 2 minutes, and are able to attend in-person sessions at UNB, you qualify.
