Stepping Stone Senior Centre as a Polling Station- On the following days, our large room only has been rented out for use as a Polling Station: - Saturday, Oct. 12- Advance Poll from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm; -Tuesday, Oct. 15- Advance Poll from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and - Election Day, Oct. 21 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Any programs regularly booked in the large room on those days have either been re-scheduled or cancelled. The programs in the other rooms are not impacted and will go ahead as scheduled on the calendar. Apple Pie/Apple Crisp Sale- Successful Apple Pies and Crisps Sale. Thank you to the committed volunteers, working over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and those who supported the event by buying our goodies. A very special thank you goes out to Grant Good, who provided the apples. Lunch around Freddy- Wednesday October 16th - Join us at Minglers – 203 Restigouche Rd. in Oromocto. When you sign up, please indicate if you need a drive or if you are willing to take passengers for the trip (and how many). Drivers and rides will be matched up. We should be leaving the Centre by 10:30 am to arrive for our usual 11:30 meal. Fluid Dance - 12:45 pm Tuesdays. Looking for participants. Fluid dance offers Salsa, Cha-Cha, Waltz, Shimmy, and more. Mirror image instructions takes the anxiety out of learning. We have fun! $5.00 a class. Subsidized bus trip to McAdam is in danger of being cancelled. Going on a day-trip that costs $120 for only $70, with a bunch of your friends, sounds like a day full of fun while saving $50 just by being a member of SSSC! We need those members who are interested in going to sign up and pay ASAP! The trip takes place on November 16 but we need to know ASAP ( deadline Oct 18th) who’s in. The bus leaves from Grant Harvey and returns by supper time. Lunch at the Lions Club, shopping at a large Craft Sale, and a tour of the McAdam Train Station. This trip is subsidized by a grant from Shannex. Restart of Craft Group Program- The Centre is hoping to get one of its original programs up and going again after the summer hiatus. A group gathered last week to begin the process and are suggesting a name change to Creative Seniors with a focus on the social aspect of the program. They invite all interested members to join them on Thursday, October 24th at 1:30 pm. There is no fee to this drop-in style program. You have the option of bringing crafts you may be working on, regardless of what they are, getting assistance from other participants if needed, sharing your expertise, or just sharing a cup of tea. All are welcome. Scrabble Tournament- Sign up for lunch and a social afternoon, enjoying Scrabble. Invite your friends. Saturday, October 26th starting at 11:30 am. $10 for pizza. Minimum number of participants required is 4. Sign up at the Centre. High score prize being offered for the first game. The remainder of the games are on a timer to allow movement between tables. They may be dropped off at the Centre. Thank you! Volunteering at the Centre – Many volunteering opportunities exist at the Centre. From Reception at the front desk, helping out with fundraisers, facilitating programs and activities, joining the board of directors, serving on a committee, and much more. Let us know what interests you! Call or email the Centre. Community News: Wheels to Meals – Lunch, a drive, and entertainment for $10! Most Tuesdays at 11:30. Organized by Meals on Wheels of Fredericton, a volunteer will provide transportation to arrive at St. Mary’s Anglican Church on McEvoy St., where a hot meal is freshly served, including dessert, tea/coffee. After lunch, local entertainers will perform and then your volunteer will take you home around 1 pm. All inclusive! To register call 506-458-9482 by Monday at noon. Social Square Dancing – Open House on October 17, classes start October 24. No partner required. Dance to modern music.
