Step into something meaningful! Join the many Members who volunteer at the Centre!! Volunteers must be members. You may hold more than one position.
Positions Available: Front Desk Volunteer (currently we have about 40 volunteers) Shifts are from 8:30 – 12:30 and 12:30 – 4:30. You can volunteer for one shift per month and as many as three per month (we have many members interested in volunteering, that’s why the limit). And you can volunteer in other capacities as well. The Volunteer at the front desk greets every person that comes in the building and records their name and purpose for the visit. If the person is here for a program, their name should be on the list for the individual programs. Check it off. If the person is not here for a program, they may be here to attend a meeting or something else, record both pieces of information on the Log Sheet. You will also answer the phone, answer questions and re-direct calls. As well you will accept and record sales, including sales of books, puzzles, jams, and sale table. You will be receiving applications for membership: please make sure that it’s New or Renewal, all information is legible – if you can’t make out what it is, please ask the person to clarify; and record payment method and your initials. Please wear your name tag so you’re not a stranger to the other person. The Front Desk Volunteer may not be very busy at times. Feel free to bring a book (or borrow one of ours), a tablet, your phone, etc. The Front Desk Volunteer may be asked to help with other tasks like shredding, folding pamphlets, etc. At the end of your shift, we ask that you sanitize all surfaces for the health of the next volunteer. Board Member Volunteer (12 voting members and 2 ex officio) The members of the board of directors are responsible for the management of the Centre. The board meets once a month except in July and December and the terms of the positions is for 2 years, renewable for another 2 years for a total of 4. Board meetings tend to be no longer than 2 hours. Agenda and related materials are circulated one week in advance. Directors of the Board are also Chair of a Committee (Communications, Events & Fundraising, Facility, Finance, Membership, Program, and Volunteer). Elections happen at the Annual General Meeting typically in February. Two Members-at-large represent the community. Committee Member Volunteer (we currently have 19) Depending on the Committee, meetings are once a month or less. You can choose to belong to a committee that you have knowledge and/or expertise in and you’d like to share your skills. Or, you may want to join a committee that deals with a subject you’d like to learn more. As a Committee Volunteer you have a Chair who guides the committee. Facilitator (Volunteer) (there are 8 at present) If you have training/expertise in an activity and you’d like to teach/share your knowledge with others, you may want to facilitate a program or do a presentation. Programs are developed and scheduled by the Program Committee and Krista Wilson, the Centre’s Coordinator. Only after the Program Committee approves it, can a program/activity be offered. Some program facilitators in the Centre are paid and others volunteer their time and therefore the participants do not pay anything. Events & Fundraising Volunteer (there are 11 at this time) Events may include Socials at the Centre, Concerts at the community locations, or staffing the promotion table at a market or fair. Fundraising Volunteers may help out at the monthly breakfast (the 1st Saturday of every month), at a Yard/Bake/Craft Sale (spring & fall), or during the Sale of Apple Crisps in the fall. The duties for your position at each of these will be provided by the Chair of the Committee or the event. Sandra Dewar Chair, Volunteer Committee [email protected] 506-447-7959 (cell)
