I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, and I have lived in New Brunswick for 50 years. I have been devoted to my community through managing charitable organizations: CMHA, Meals on Wheels of Fredericton, and Family Enrichment and Counselling Services. I have also volunteered with the Women's Conference, 3rd Age Friendly Committee, Emergency Measures, Whydah, and Wheels to Meals. I have been a member of Stepping Stone Senior Centre since the beginning and joined the board in 2023 as Vice President, becoming President in February 2025. I have two grown children and four grandchildren.

DARLENE THOMAS - Vice President |
A semi-retired Grandma whose career has been that of Healthcare, Accounting, and Business Management, with a strong focus on seniors. She has also had many years' experience with Non-Profits, including having held positions with an international organization that helps abused children. With a passion for helping people live their best, she came to SSSC as Administrator in 2020. By mid-2021 it had become apparent that Covid had wreaked havoc on SSSC finances. It hurt to realize that it was best to resign. It is truly an honor to now serve as Vice President.

LINDA DEVEAUX - Treasurer |
I grew up in Fredericton, then moved to Ontario, where I finished my accounting studies and earned my Certified General Accountant designation in 1994. After 34 years in Ontario, I came back home to Fredericton to be with my Dad. I currently work part-time at UNB and volunteer with Community Food Smart, York Care Assisted Living Residents (Bingo nights), and Stepping Stone Senior Centre, where I started on the front desk. I am so happy to be back in my hometown, giving to those who need a little bit of extra help or just a friendly smile and a hello!

MADELEINE GAUDET - Past President |
I am a mother of four and a grandmother of two. I found Stepping Stone Senior Centre in the Fall of 2002, after retiring from a career in nursing and labor relations that I loved. I signed up for programs that I would now have time to participate in, such as Line Dancing, Theatre, Darts, and Tai Chi. I met and socialized with members that were dedicated volunteers, working to make this newly established Centre a vital and healthy part of the Fredericton community. It wasn't long before I knew where I wanted to be, actively involved in this new stage of my life. The rest is history! The story continues!

LIZ MORENCY - Member at Large |
I joined Stepping Stone Senior Centre in 2004, participating in the Singers group, the Troubadours, and the Writer's Group, contributing several stories to the book The Colour of our Lives, launched in 2007. I'm still a participant of these groups, as well as Mah-jongg.
I began volunteering at the reception desk in 2017 and joined the Board of Directors in 2019 as Member-at-Large. In 2020, I accepted the position of Membership Chair and am now Member-at-Large again. I'm still enjoying my time at Stepping Stone, attending the same programs. When volunteering, I get to meet and socialize with many of our members. |
SHELLEY PETLEY - Chair of the Communications Committee |
I have been a member of the Centre since I retired from GNB in 2016 and have served on the Board of Directors for several years. I am currently Chair of the Communications Committee. I also direct the Troubadours and sing with both the Stepping Stones Singers and the Ukulalians.

MARIE LEWIS - Program Chairperson |
I have been a member of the Stepping Stone Senior Centre for approximately ten years. Initially, I joined the seated Tai Chi for fitness and eventually began volunteering at the front desk. Prior to my retirement, I enjoyed working at the DECH, beginning in various departments before becoming a Communications Clerk in the ICU. In my later years, I moved on to the Dialysis Unit as both Clerk and Aide. I have always enjoyed being a dog owner and promoting responsible dog ownership. The highlight of my life has been my two sons and their families. As Program Chairperson, I am enjoying the constant learning and taking part in the importance of Senior living.

SANDRA DEWAR - Chair of the Volunteer Committee |
I have been associated with Stepping Stone Senior Centre since about 2015. I had retired in late November of 2011 and then worked for VON in Fredericton for about four years following. I was looking for a volunteer opportunity after that and found Stepping Stone to be very enjoyable to be a part of. I then became part of the Board in the role of Secretary for a while and then moved into the role of Chair of the Volunteer Committee until the present day. I am now responsible for recruitment and orienting volunteers who are interested in the front desk, as well as collaborating with the Board on volunteers needed for fundraising and events.

KATHRYN (KATE) BAIRD - City of Fredericton |
I was born in Toronto but have lived in and worked for the City of Fredericton for more than 35 years. I am the City Recreation Division's main contact person for the Stepping Stone Senior Centre. So I'm ex-officio on the board - as in I share my opinion/advice but I don't vote. I am married with two grown children and two grandchildren and retirement is not too far away. Maybe after that I'll become a full-fledged member! It is a pleasure to work with this group.

KRISTA WILSON - Coordinator |
Krista has been the Coordinator of Stepping Stones Senior Centre since 2021. As an employee, she is a non-voting member of the Board.
