NEW PROGRAM - Help With Technology First session Friday, February 2 from 1:30 to 3:30 (booked) You are invited to bring your tech challenges with your cell phone, iPad, etc., to the experts. A group of six IT students from NB Community College will gladly guide you through solutions. There is no cost for this program. To date we have Feb 9th booked as well as Feb 16th. We hope will run until the end of March with 6 registered every Friday. Please call the centre to register. Your name will be added to the next available Friday, and you will be called to confirm. It’s Membership Renewal Time!!! Don’t miss out!!! More activities, same cost, $25 Forum - Wednesday, February 7th at 3:00 pm - Aging and Mental Health Presented by Emily Creamer, a Social Worker with Addictions and Mental Health, Fredericton, and will provide information on: - Mental Health Services in Fredericton - Make-up of the Senior Team - How to access services and the location for services. - Overview of how thoughts, feelings, health habits, relationships interests and goals relate to mental health and aging well. - There will be handouts available on the above topics. Advance Notice - Annual General Meeting - Wednesday February 28th at 1:30pm. Information booklets are available for pickup now. There will proposed changes to the By-laws and nomination election included. Meeting in-person or by Zoom Call for Nominations 2024 Our current SSSC Board of Directors was elected in 2023 for a 2-year term (2023-2025). Due to unforeseen circumstances, we now have three members serving in Acting positions. In order to officially fill these positions, we are calling for Nominations. Nominees to date are: Secretary: Kelli Henderson; Volunteer Committee Chair: Sandra Dewar; Program Committee Chair: Marie Lewis. Elections will be held at the AGM on February 28. Further nominations may come from the floor at that time. Those elected will serve from 2024 to 2026. In Other News: Food Bank Basket- We have a basket in the front lobby for any non- perishable items you may wish to bring in. The contents will be delivered to the Food Bank as the basket is filled. Jam Jars- We are looking for 250 ml jars. If you have you any and would like to donate, bring them to the Centre. Community News Survey: Recreation and Leisure Master Plan! The City of Fredericton is developing a new Recreation and Leisure Master Plan to guide services, programs, events, facilities, parks, open spaces, and other amenities for the next decade. And we'd love to get your input! You can take our survey: https://engagefredericton.ca/ The survey closes on February 26th. There will be more opportunities to have your voice heard on this important community project - stay tuned to Engage Fredericton for all the details! Happening at Johnston Ave- Pastels – 6 weeks Feb.12, (no class Feb 19 due to Family Day) Feb 26, (no class March 4 due to March Break) March 11, 18, 25, & April 8 (April 15 is make-up day if there is a weather cancelation) Registration opens at 9am Thursday, February 1. Learn about oil pastels with Peggy Holt! If you haven’ used oil pastels before, this six-week introduction is an amazing opportunity. Even those with experience using oil pastels are encouraged to take part and add to their skills! If you draw and paint already, you can learn to use pastels and add additional, multi-layered elements to your work. Take part in this relaxing and creative experience at the Fredericton Senior Center, 112 Johnston Ave, starting Monday, February 12, 1:30 to 3:00 pm.
